It is actually - Take SEPTA to Trenton and then NJT to Newark or NY Penn Stations. If still talking Jersey City, NJT won't stop there but get off in Newark, and switch to the PATH at the same station.

The transfer from Jersey Transit to the PATH at Newark is right across the same platform...nothing can be easier.

We've done the Jersey City Waterfront to Newark Penn Station to Trenton and then on to SEPTA and then back the same day many times.

DO NOT make the mistake of taking Amtrak all the way into Philly Philly because it costs a great deal more.
