How will traffic be? Their flight leaves at 8:30am. We originally wanted to leave by 6:00am, but last week when I picked them up it took 3 1/2 hours to get home. So, we are leaving at 5:30am. Probably no traffic that early in CT, but what about at 6:30am through the Van Wyck? Thanks.

You didn't say what airport you're going dropping them at and what town or city you're coming from, so I don't know how you were expecting people to answer, lol.

Just a general answer, if their flight leaves at 8:30, get them there by 7... Which means you should be leaving the house AT 5 if it takes 2 hours to get there normally, just to be on the safe side. Traffic before 6am usually isn't bad at all.

JFK Airport. I am coming from Westport Connecticut. If I leave at 5:30, I plan on being at the airport to drop them off at 7:00. Traffic shouldn't be bad in CT at 5:30, but when I picked them up on the Van Wyck on Thursday at 2:00pm....

I would say leave closer to 5:15, if you can. Getting to JFK can be a bit difficult if you hit the van wyck after 6, depending on car accidents etc.

On a Sunday?

On the other hand, one of my mottos is "If you can't be on time, be early." I instilled this in my daughter years ago, when it comes to airlines. Better an hour early than a minute late. They won't open the door once it's closed. She has thanked me more than once when some snafu occurred on her end. Once was when she went to the wrong gate for her return flight because she misread the seat number as the gate number and had to take the tram back to the main terminal and had to return to the correct gate area. Yes, she is blond.

2 pm on a weekday would normally have little traffic. You may have just had bad luck with an accident or construction. That's how it goes.

President Obama will be in Westchester county on Wednesday, at the Tappan Zee. That will tie up traffic into snarls. I would imagine even coming down/heading up the Merritt to the Hutch is going to be hairy in advance of his visit.
