Bay Ridge has tons of awesome places, old and new-- Gino's on 5th and 75th for Italian, Ho' Brah on 3rd and 87th for SoCal style Mexican food, Tanoreen for middle eastern.
Also in Bensonhurst-- John's Deli and Spumoni Gardens (both on the same stretch of 86th st) are both awesome for heros and pizza respectively.
That Roast Beef at John's is very good! Ahh, now I'm hungry.
Queens Blvd between 39th and 52th in Sunnyside has tons of great places. After that, the torch is passed to Roosevelt Avenue, which has great restaurants all the way up to Downtown Flushing
Astoria, no-brainer for Greek food. Best I ever had.
Jackson Heights for Pakistani and Indian food.
