If he didnt hand over that info, how would he ever get the chance to sell the place to someone?

Perhaps you should PM him the subject matter with him and see if he wants to work with you.

You're better off moving to Queens, Brooklyn and Maybe even Westchester. Think about it, you're not always gonna work in manhattan so why not settle in a borough more calm?
I can only speak for Queens & Westchester so here are my opinions

Queens: You should look into Forest Hills or Corona.
Westchester County: White Plains, Dobbs Ferry, New Rochelle, Yonkers, Hastings on Hudson etc..

Since you want to find something near manhattan i can bet that you don't have a car and use the train. So if thats the case Queens is your best bet. Has a safe community (safer than brooklyn and bronx) and its about 20mins from 108st to times SQ on the 7 train. Youll get a 3 bed 2 bath for like $2k monthly rent.

I'm not even going to try and understand the reasoning. I have a whole house in Virginia for 900 a month and you want to live in a shared apartment where it cost each person 1800 a month?

How do you know exactly what your salary will be if you don't have a place here yet? Are you getting transferred?

I try and get this through my brother's thick skull whenever I see him (he makes about what you do); you've got no business living in Manhattan with what you make. You barely have business living in Queens or Brooklyn. Look for a nice place like others have suggested in Forest Hills, get yourself a LIRR pass and ride into Manhattan in style whenever you like, it'll only take you 17 minutes.

I work in NYC but I am looking for a new apartment now ^

At 22, I think its ok to spend ~$1,800 per month on rent. I have zero debt and have a good amount of money saved up.. more than what some people earn a year. With that said, I of course would only want to live off of my salary. I'm going to look for an additional roommate and try to get a nice 3br.

I think you should book it out of NYC, continue to build your savings, go live in Northern Westchester and commute.

You're 22, you should be enjoying life, exploring what other states have to offer, and really just take it all in. I make a little over 100k a year and there is no way I would risk being house poor just to say I live in Manhattan.

When I was 22 years old I was living in Germany riding around in Mercedes, earning an income, and being self supportive. Of course I was in the Army so that was easy to do.

You're young and got your whole life ahead of you, don't get caught up in that yuppie Manhattan I'll go hungry just to prove I can live here mentality.

You're 22, I would almost bet by the time your 35 you would not want anything to do with he city anymore. Continue to save your money and build a good life for yourself.

Wow... OP doesn't understand what a broker does. Wants something way out of his price range.

Hate to say it, but I'm afraid there's some naivete at play here.

It makes no sense for a 22 year old to strap themselves down to an 1800 dollar a month shared apartment .

Saying you make 70k a year in Manhattan is basically the same as saying your making 28k a year in Georgia.

I'm not picking on you I'm just saying at 22 with no significant other or children, you need to be enjoying your life. Save the high stress high payments for your mid 30's, wife, house, kids, and a damn Volvo
