So I heard that the Bronx zoo is arguably the best in the country...so I could not resist to find out how the best zoo looks like. Well, the striking difference I noticed between the Bronx zoo and other less prestigious zoos elsewhere is that it is packed with.....humans in crowds, in wheel chairs, in trailers, in strollers....I managed to spot a handful of animals peeking through the tiny gaps between human limbs during my two-hour or so animal hunting in the zoo, but it was absolutely too noisy to hear what the animals were saying or singing... The paths are as crowded as the busy streets/alleys in chinatown, although the former is much cleaner with less smell and thus more pleasant to stroll along if you are in no rush to catch a ride for your next stop. It is a mixed experience afterwards but I think I get an idea of how it is.

It's usually not that bad when I've visited, which is pretty frequent because I'm a member. The worst day is always Wednesday, because it's free, so especially in the summer when all the camps visit... Summer is generally going to be more crowded. I also like the Queens zoo. It's much smaller but less crowded and there is a petting zoo.

Sounds like you made the decision to go to the zoo on the wrong day.As with any NYC park or venue like that you should steer clear on weekends, free days(Wednesday at The Zoo) or perfect weather days, when everyone decides to do the same thing.I use The zoo as a cut through sometimes to get from my neighborhood to Little Italy and it's actually surprising how often it is relatively empty.
The San Diego zoo might not have the "human factor" as the Bronx zoo does. I did enjoy having close-up views of a lot of ppl of all sorts while walking in the zoo. I was also impressed by the countless amount of trees there...

Can't you do that on the subway or busy Manhattan streets?
That why I avoid most of NYCs attractions. Too....many...people. It sucks too, that why I try to find ways to go to these attractions on weekdays or on days when it shouldn't be busy.
I haven't been to the Bronx Zoo since 1996, when I was in first grade. I would love to go again.
The whole city is a zoo. It is unfortunate that unless a person is off during the week or on off-hours, it is nearly impossible to enjoy the stuff we have here. Anything nice you try to do just ends up turning into a huge hassle where you're forced to deal with tons of animals, whether you're at the zoo or not.
The Bronx zoo is like the Statue of Liberty, people from all over the world, will make a stop, especially during vacation time. The best way to get into anywhere is go only when the least amount of people are going to be their. However they hold of certain events, on the holidays. It is the same thing that the aquarium basically.

It is a different kind of aggregation in the zoo, mr nei. Each crowd is different, depending on where you are....location, location, location...
