If I were to drive to NYC (Brooklyn specifically) any time after 3:00 PM from Western Connecticut, how bad would the traffic be? I would think most of the traffic would be commuters going out of the city. Is it pretty smooth driving or is traffic bad both ways?

Just apply awful and congested to any questions regarding traffic around 3pm on a weekday.

Traffic is traffic, there's usually little you can do about it. Like the cab that went between the service road of the Van Wyck and the highway 12 times yesterday. Highly doubt that he got ahead of anyone that way. Just leave a good amount of time, arm yourself with some patience and everything is going to be ok.

Coming from CT and driving down to Brooklyn during the evening rush? Yikes!

You might be sitting in traffic for a while on the parkways up in the Bronx. Nearly 4 million people make their way out of Manhattan in every direction between 4-7pm on the weekdays; 1/4 of them seem to be driving. Might not be so fun adding to the traffic mess... then there's the issue with finding a spot once you finally get down to Brooklyn.

I'd avoid driving into NYC if you can and take Metro North which connects to the 4 and 5 subway lines at Grand Central. Both subway lines go into Brooklyn. Much less of a headache than fighting traffic and it might take a shorter amount of time.
