A lot of those small hip hop brands were owned by hip hop artists or the designers were people of color. I would think that a positive development for hip-hop community not a negative one. Big biz has had their grubby hands in hip hop for a long time. It was already happening in the 80s.

True but the quality of the clothes were pathetic. You would see them for sale on 125 St. or some joe shmoe store on 34th St. The documentary made it seem like they were " the ****" but they weren't. Eventually the big stores caved in and it took off. People buying this crap have no taste at all.

And they were extremely expensive. A pairbof jeans would sometimes run you $80. Respectively, they are tacky, but people thought they were trendy wardrobe in those days.
