Nice to meet you.
Im 25 years old japanese male living in japan right now.
Im moving to NY for studying abroad next month.

I`d like to know some good places to live in. (looking for my apartment)
I`ll study in ALCC (Queens) and hopefully live near the school.(in 10 min by walk)
But I ll go to NY for my studying jazz music. So I have to go to jazz live in Manhattan.
That`s why I have to get home late at night in Elmhurst maybe.

Here is a question.

Is it dangerous to get home late at night around Elmhurst or is there any safe places late at night around there ?

I`ll thank you for your answers.

Best regard,

naturalism1203

In a word: no. Sure, there's always a chance of running into some crazy late at night on the train ride home, but that could happen anywhere. Elmhurst and Jackson Heights are pretty safe areas with very good transportation options.

Dear Mr. psychopompos

Thank you so much, Mr.
I`m glad to hear what you said.

I`m going to look for my apartment around elmhurst and jackson heights.

Best regards,

I agree with Mr. Psychopompos about the safety of the area. If your budget allows it, you should be able to rent a room within a 10 minute walk of the school and feel quite safe coming home late. I think a room for rent in a shared apartment would go for around $650 to $900 / month in the area. There are more US-born American English speakers in Jackson Heights historic district vs. Elmhurst if you're looking to live with English speakers for the practice opportunity.

That was all it took to convince you? Anyway, Elmhurst is fine.

Yes you should be fine living in either Jackson Heights (even a block or two outside the Historic District is also fine) or Elmhurst. Good luck!

There are not many Japanese at all in Elmhurst. Probably more old stock white NYers floating around Elmhurst than Japanese.
