Hi friendly and helpful people
Just took a new job in Brooklyn - On Elm Pl. (between Fulton Mall and Livingston St ), there's a Macy's right there. Can someone educate me on the area please? Is it a Safe area? Good places for lunch? Where not to go? What if I have to work late, still safe? And that Macy's parking garage - a bit spooky - dark and dingy!.... I saw one post that said that Fulton mall was not so nice an area, true? Any info that can be provided would be real helpful Thanks |

Used to go these as a kid with my parents, last stop on the Myrtle ave El (the old tweed Q cars).
They had great waffles in A&S on your way out. There was also an automat place to eat. I wonder what its like as well now ![]() |

I live two blocks from Fulton Mall and walk by it's entrance at Boerum Place every morning. It's a bustling area during the day (and is safe) but at night there are very few people walking around; I've felt a little uncomfortable coming from the subway stop there late at night due to the fact that not a single business is open past 8:00 PM or so. There are some sandwich/pizza places right on Fulton Mall and some good sit down places on Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights proper. Where will you be working here?

Jindel, Boerum Place is also called Brooklyn Bridge Blvd. Fulton Mall begins right where Brooklyn Bridge Blvd. intersects Joralemon St. Fulton Mall is the street that runs to the east of that intersection.

Despite what others have said, I would be wary about wandering around Fulton Mall after 8 PM. I wouldn't ride in any Dollar Vans on Flatbush Ave and I would keep my eyes wide open in the subway station without flashing any jewelry or ipods etc.
The Brooklyn Macy's is a far cry from the flagship Herald Square store... There are a couple of sandwich & bagel shops in MetroTech. I would also recommend Kevin Barry's on Willoughby Street for a pint & some Irish fare. |

lots of business and hustle n bustle during the normal hours, 6am-8pm and is very safe. Theres lots of civil and social services buildings (courts, welfare, ssi, etc) there, housing projects and the brooklyn detention center is not too far away. Since most people dance around the issue, ill just say it. Its a black (mostly poor) area thats gentrifying at light speed. Whether you find that refreshing and wonderful, or downright scary, is your prerogative. in 5 years, it will probably be one of the best spots in brooklyn due to the stadium. for now, watch your wallet after hours. |
