Not reading whole thread. Just giving my opinion based on OP title. Our all time fave is King Yum on Union Tpke. in the Fresh Meadows section. Been going there since the early 70's. My family has been going there longer! The most authentic. There is no better as far as we are concerned. We have re-unions there all the time!

From what I observed, good Chinese food to westerners is different than good Chinese food to Chinese.
Chinese people usually avoid the Americanized Chinese food like general so chicken, beef broccoli, sweet & sour ribs, etc.

I doubt East Ocean Buffet offers shark fin soup @ $20pp. I live nearby by the way.
