I've lived here in Manhattan for 5 years and I very rarely use the subway. I've probably used it four times in total this year.

I much prefer using uber and walking. I live around Madison Park and there is just so much around me so I don't need to travel far. When I travel out of the nabe, I just use a car.

I'm not sure why some people find this strange but they do. I just much prefer the scenery from above ground and the subway isn't my thing.

No. Not at all.

I think if people could avoid it more often they would.

With all the aggravation of car ownership, it is logical that one would use it.

Without a car, the equation changes because buses are very slow and cabs are very expensive.

So flatiron, where do you put your car near Madison Park...at what cost?

Do you make a point of bringing this up in conversations? How do people know you don't take the subway?

That's like saying do you found me strange that...

I never make coffee and i buy all of my joes at starbucks because they just make better coffee.

Or

I never wash my clothes because the dry cleaner clean my clothes cleaner.

Or

I never clean my apartment, the cleaning lady does a better job.

Unless you want to sound like a douche, I think this is better not said.

I have met a few people who hate or have a phobia riding the subway, they avoid it at all cost.
For myself there's nothing romantic about taking the subway anymore, although they have improve greatly last few years I still think it is too expensive.

But you haven't lived til you take a bus from South Ferry up to Yorkville. Your life passes before your eyes TWICE as you grind along one tedious block after another and you arrive home several days later.
