I have been looking at Brooklyn because it is close to lower Manhatton where I will be working. As with any city, there are good and bad areas which locals know very well, but people who don't live there have no idea until it is too late. Can you give me some good areas to look at?
I am also going to check the commute routes to Connecticut. Thanks again.
I live in Woodbridge, NJ right now, and I have just bought a 3bdr, 2.5btrm Townhouse, brand new for around 310K. I dont no how much taxes, but the schools are very good in the North-Central New Jersey area. Long Island tends to have older homes, and a higher cost, 2 things i despise when looking for a home. I haven't lived in Vegas, and durring my time here in the US, I have lived in New Haven Connecticut, Arlington New York, Rahway New Jersey, and now Woodbridge. I really like New Jersey because it is close to work (I actually work here in Woodbrige for HESS Motor oil company) and it is very close to NYC, Newark Liberty International Airport (hub for Continental), and plenty of shopping.
I can tell you right now that finding a two bedroom for less than $2000 is going to be a challenge in NYC. I don't think it even exists except in areas where you wouldn't want to be walking around at night.
Again, you'll do far better outside the city.
You can definitely find a 2bdrm in a decent area of NYC for $2k. It will be a challenge in Manhattan though, big time. As long as you don't mind living in a different borough, you can certainly find suitable living with a good school.
Thanks for all your responses. They have been very helpful.
