Driving in NYC is a hassle. I'm tired of the pedestrians and bicycles that always get on your way even when the light is green? Why do they jump in front of you? Is it because they are tired of their lives and want you to hit them? The other day I was driving at 30 mph which is the speed limit in NYC. Then I saw some teenagers that crossed in front of me like they don't care about anything. I had to reduce abruptly. If not I would have hit them. Why are people like this? They can just let a car passed as the car goes fast than them. Then they will blame it on the vehicles.. SMH like I always hear on the TV. A car struck a pedestrian. When in reality it was his/her fault.

Inputs please....

People here are just flat out stupid, and the worst thing about it is that politicians will always blame the driver if they get hit, whether the driver or pedestrian is wrong. This is why this crap continues. I always see bike riders running red lights and getting hit by cars and such.

Because they have a death wish! *LOL*

Have told friends and family one day am just going to snap and they will see me on the 11PM news!

Many pedestrians are just flat out bold or must be just stupid. They constantly walk out into the middle of the road without looking both ways, and worse do so against the light. Even better they are self absorbed in whatever device (tablet, phone, Iphone, etc...) they have plugged into their ears.

They walk into, against, along side of traffic as if it were a game and that you won't hit them. *Wrong*

Equally wrong is the assumption I will some how go to jail or worse if they are hit. Long as one is driving below or at the speed limit and breaking no known laws nothing much will happen if at all. Just need to remain at the scene and report the accident to the PoPo.

Bikers especially those from certain demographics are another one. They ride against traffic, on sidewalks, through red lights and or stop signs, etc...

The City has torn up almost every avenue below 125th Street to create those darn bike paths, taking away parking and or turning lanes in the process. And yet you still see plenty of bikers in the middle of the road. What was it all in aid of then?

The bike lanes are full of construction, pushcarts, pedestrians, police cars, garbage trucks, etc. (I think I've seen all those in one < 1 mile trip, in fact)

Definitely true , but still doesn't excuse the bikers ignoring red lights or going against traffic etc.

Walking through this city isn't any easier. People who ride bikes in NYC 2014 have a death wish or an injury fetish.

I completely agree. The behavior of the pedestrians makes it very dangerous to drive. Every time I am approaching an intersection where there are people around, someone is stepping out in front of my car when I have the green. What this encourages me to do is to speed up a little when approaching an intersection, in order to deter even more pedestrians from going against the light (although I really try not to speed up). It seems if the pedestrians sense even a tiny bit of hesitation in the driver, or that the driver will "let them get away with it" as expressed earlier in the thread, then they get even more bold (and stupid).

I am all for a jaywalking ticket blitz in this city in order to make people wake up and pay attention. And most of the time I am a pedestrian and not a driver!

My husband and I are both part-time cyclists. We go back and forth from riding religously for a while, to not touching a bike for a while. Ive fallen over once, in a stationary position, because I missed judged a wall that my foot ended up bouncing off of, and I timbered right over like a mighty pine, lol.

My husband, on the other hand, has been badly injured several times by careless motorists who race to the curb and fling the driverside door open, catching him and the bike moving at usually a good rate of speed - for a bike - and leaving the rider damaging their front wheel rim, the force of the abrupt stop is so hard. The rider also damages their hands, knees, and any number of other places, including their head if they happen to not be wearing a helmet.

Okay, to heck with the cyclist - what if my husband had been a truck?

Why?

People need to put the bluetooth down, and be aware of whats happening around them when they are driving. In my honest opinion, it is in the best interest of the cyclist to ride as defensively as possible. Idk, driving defensively might be a good thing for the motorist too. *shrugs*

It is a state law to wear a helmet when riding a bike, I believe. If it is, I believe NYC is still a part of NYS. Even if it isn't, any cyclist in NYC is stupid if they dont.

Just my 2 cents.

Ask those who live in North West Brooklyn or lower Manhattan.
