This is clearly a response to the protest that was held in Staten Island for Eric Garner. People can spin anyway they want, but this is no coincidence. Why does everything have to be either/or to these people? What happens if you don't agree with these teachers but support the NYPD (what cops go through in general) and at the same time find the actions of some of these cops appalling and flat out disgusting to humanity? Why does supporting the NYPD have come as a F** You to those with legitimate concerns about police misconduct?

Teachers Warned Not to Wear Pro-NYPD T-Shirts to School - Great Kills - DNAinfo.com New York

Quote:
STATEN ISLAND — Staten Island teachers were slapped with a stern warning this week not to wear pro-NYPD T-shirts to school — as an email told them that doing so could get them in trouble with the Department of Education.
An email to United Federation of Teachers members Wednesday night warned them that the Department of Education considers wearing pro-NYPD shirts to protest last month's UFT-sanctioned Eric Garner rally a threat to their ability to remain "objective" as public employees, according to a copy of the email posted online.

"The DOE has reason to believe that there may be protests in the form of tee shirts that will be worn to school tomorrow," the note begins, according to a version shared on Facebook. "They asked us to remind you that as public employees, one must remain objective at all times."
"Certain tee shirt messages may appear to be supportive, but individuals (parents, students) may see a different meaning in that message," the note continued. "Principals may report any inappropriate apparel to the chancellor."

The message ends by telling members to let others know "so they are aware of potential implications."
UFT Staten Island borough representative Debra Penny would not say whether the UFT sent out the email. She said the DOE did not ask the union to send it out. In a statement released Friday, UFT president Michael Mulgrew said they encourage members to express their opinion, just not in the classroom.

"As a democratic union, we encourage all our 200,000 members to express their opinions," Mulgrew said in a statement. "But Department of Education regulations require school personnel to avoid distracting clothes and openly political statements when in school."
The DOE also denied asking the union to send the notice, but a spokeswoman said that anything that distracts from learning, especially on the first day of classes, should be kept out of the classroom.

There is just as much, if not more corruption in the DOE then the NYPD.

I saw the pic of those teachers who did it.

Pathetic women trying to land a cute cop boyfriend or husband.

NYPD groupies I call them.

You have a point here. My guess is that some of them initiated this because they have family in the NYPD.

On the flip side, would the cops wear pro-NYCTeachers tee-shirts every time one of them gets arrested for sexual assault of a minor?

The lesson for all is that there are bad cops and bad teachers, but most of them are performing their job correctly. For the children, it's very confusing. We want and we need them to view cops and teachers as their helpers amd protectors, but how can you tell which ones are trustworthy. We send them a mixed message and it's just too complex for youngsters. Now we have to tell them to report their problems to these authorities, but with warnings and caution about specific behaviors.

You are free to be happy with your ugly thug bf, or gf.
For all you know, these teachers are already the spouses of children of NYPD officers.

No, they're not. Only of them was. She wasn't even a spouse, she was the GIRLFRIEND and she passed around the t-shirts to her "single and available" teacher friends. Come on now, we know what it is.

Those teachers are still NYPD groupies though.

It's plain to anyone viewing their pics that their "advertising" themselves for a cop boyfriend.

OT: Thanks for posting links on the welch, english, scottish, irish background thing. I also had NO IDEA that calling the British "brits" was a "bad" thing. I've been hearing it for so many years that I thought it was normal.

After reading those links and doing more research, I'm beginning to understand Scotland's need to be independent of Britain now. I'm just wondering why it took so long.

born in '89
went to PS161 Brooklyn (majority minority teachers who grew up in the neighborhood)
IS 109 Queens (Mix of ethnicity's also grew up in neighborhood and surrounding areas)
Benjamin Cardozo Queens (Mix of ethnicity's also grew up in neighborhood and surrounding areas)

nowadays it seems NYC teachers are transplants who have do not accept or want to identify to the different cultures of children they are teaching. <Same situation w/ our police officers>
Teachers supporting the police officers that killed Eric Garner
Teachers (in Queens of all places)banning students for reporting on Malcolm X

These teachers, officers are the same people in our jury pool who would not hesitate to put innocent minorities behind the bars....nof###sgiven....their blunt about the way they feel about minorities and native new yorkers

Queens school barred student reports on 'bad' Malcolm X, parents say
Teachers at Public School 201 in Flushing wouldn't let their students write about Malcolm X for Black History Month, parents say, and called the controversial activist 'violent' and 'bad.' Some parents feel the teachers are forcing their opinions on students and disrespecting black history.
