good, I am glad for them. it was unacceptable that they had to spend time in jail. not that what they were doing in the park was so great, but to be wrongfully sent to jail, is un acceptable.
also, the jogger herself, was a moron anyway, not that she deserved this of course, but back then, what young girl in her right mind would jog thru central park at night?, she was a stupid girl. what the hell was she thinking????
You only get one life, every day, hour, minute and second that goes by you will not get it back. These men lost years of their lives. They lost the years of their lives that should've been the best (20's,30's,40's). For what? being young minority males that happened to be in the area when a well-off white woman was attacked.
They deserve every penny. At least they can live the final 30 or so years of their lives making up for the years they lost.
The exonerated men have been awarded $1 million per year of false imprisonment.
What do you think?
I can imagine some of the posters here screaming "no justice no peace" at the idea of black men who were falsely imprisoned receiving a $41 million settlement.
Hey BlakeJones..I agree. Waltz into Central Park and pray you are arrested for raping a woman. The police will force a confession out of you, drag your name, your family's name, and your race through the mud and blame you for the world's problems, publicly convict you even before you are given a trial, and then you can spend a decade in jail, and 20 years trying to clear your name. Hurry up and get it while the gettin's good! Right?
Thanks to DeBlasio, you don't have to go that far. There are dozens of lawsuits to choose from, just pick one at random and your number will eventually turn up at city hall.
Guaranteed settlement blowout, for a limited time only!! (roughly equal to the mayor's term in office)
The cops took the easy route instead of doing the job we pay them to do: they railroaded a bunch of local teens into "confessing" after a long night & day of being intimidated & harassed by adults with authority & guns to say the "other guys", who they barely knew, did it after being promised they could go then go home.
The actual rapist continued raping & had murdered one woman & blinded others with a knife after raping them & the cops never looked into a connection even though there was some physical evidence clues besides dna connecting him & there was absolutely no evidence of any kind connecting the kids to the rape other than they were in the park.
I'm all for it. What I'd really like is to see police, detectives, DA's and Judges punished for their wrong doing. It rarely happens however. They all "sleep" together, so they all protect one another. I believe they are required to take an oath to "never admit you are wrong- regardless of how it affects peoples lives".
