Hi, I am from Bay Ridge Brooklyn and I being forced to sell my house. I will only receive a third of the proceeds and the siblings get the rest. I cant afford a house in Bay Ridge only a coop and I not too happy about having a coop.
I am thinking of moving to Cypress hills, near the Highland Park. Any thoughts. thanks in advance.

seriously, I was thinking the same thing.
Go to Sunset park if you have to, but Cypress. Don't think so.

Welcome to the real world. Very few people can afford to buy a house in Bay Ridge. I lived in Bay Ridge for over 6 years and I loved it. I was tired of renting and after I got married we wanted to settle down and buy something. Unfortunately with our budget we could only afford a coop or a few condo's.
We were about to purchase a coop but after talking to our family and friends everyone told us it would be a big mistake and we would regret it.
We ended up buying a house in Nassau County not far from the Queens border. Now I'm in a big house with a lawn and driveway. My house here would cost four times the amount in Bay Ridge. The schools are much better and the commute to the city is about the same, if not less.
Bay Ridge was probably the most reasonably priced nice neighborhood in Brooklyn. If I couldn't afford that area then I was not going to live in Brooklyn. Cypress Hills is not an area I would ever consider.
OP, why don't you check out some neighborhoods in Nassau such as Valley Stream, Franklin Square, Floral park, Bellrose, Rosedale, Lynbrook etc. You might find something nice in those neighborhoods that fits your budget and comparable to Bay Ridge.

Why are you thinking Cypress Hills? I don't mean to deter you by any means, I'm just curious. This is a neighborhood i'm actually interested in (not to move, but to see it's progression in the next 10-15 years).

I think it depends on what you want out of a neighborhood and home. I live exactly where you are looking, in cypress hills next to highland park. I like it a lot, there are definitely pros and cons. I love the park, my neighbors are friendly and nice. There are a lot of families around with younger kids so my street is lively in a nice way. My biggest complaints are people playing music loud in their cars on the weekend and the lack of access to healthy food. But I love that I can grow food at the community garden in the park. The commute to manhattan isn't bad at all, but it is a good neighborhood if you own a car.

Cypress Hills is not Bay Ridge but it's better than some nearby (to Cypress Hills) areas. It's a neighborhood currently in the crosshairs for future planning and progression. I'm from the eastern part, east of Crescent St.

Hah! I recall warning you about the loud music
The locations are totally random though. My particular block at times could be quite annoying with loud music and loud conversations. This is due to the fact there are 4 buildings with low quality tenants. Same 4 buildings, always.

My grandmother use to live on Lincoln Avenue until 2009. I probably use to past your house every morning when I go to work lol.
