Hi guys,

I found a nice studio in Queens but I don't know if it is a good area. It is between Jamaica Ave and Hillside Ave around 192nd st. It is called Hollis Park Garden.

Is it safe over there? It is a basement studio and they are asking for $1275 which I think is a bit much for a basement studio in that area. what do you think? is this area too close to south Jamaica?

how is the commute to Manhattan?

That particular part of Hollis is halfway decent. Away from the actual commercial strip on Jamaica Ave, which is seedy....its pretty quiet and residential with lots of large stand alone homes. You are near Jamaica estates which is a very nice area (aesthetically at least). The strip on Hillside ave has its share of seedy looking characters, but feels pretty safe to me as a native New Yorker.
There seems to be a good mix of cultures but its predominantly West Indian and South Asain, with others mixed in. Parking is great in this area too.

Thanks, funcrusher, I also wanted to know if it is safe there at night to walk from the F train station going home.

Id bet it reasonably safe. You'd be walking 13 blocks up Hillside ave I assume, there are a few 24 hour gas stations and stores, its not desolate. Just to left would be Jamaica estates, which is secure.

LOL unless you're asking about Astoria, Jackson Heights or LIC, most people probably won't even know where you're talking about.

I'll vouch for this as a 2nd opinion.
