Sorry to break the news but the NY State Police wouldn't be available to step in. They're much too busy handing out speeding tickets on the Thruway.

If the crap ever really hits the fan in this country you're on your own. Rember Katrina in N.O. and the Rodney King riot in L.A?

While the likelihood is low, his fear isn't terribly unfounded. I worked in the wtc area, and prior to 9 11 I couldn't fathom such an attack on my city, let alone being there when it happened. Anything is possible.

Me and mine would do quite well on our own. My wife shoots more often and better than the vast majority of the NYPD. I personally train nearly once a week.

If the crap ever hits the fan in this country, a LOT of people in this city would be forced to seriously rethink their political allegiance to the policy of wussifying the individual American. I'm sure skinny jeans, blogs and lattes have a place in the Apocalypse. I just haven't figured it out yet.

Don't take this as a stance again guns, because I'm all for personal protection, but owning a gun for most people in this country is a seriously false sense of security. If a burglar broke into your house you'd have a stab wound in your skull before you knew he was in the bedroom, let alone have time to reach for your gun. Most gun owners would never have the mental fortitude or opportunity to get, co.ck, and aim in time to save themselves in 99% of threatening situations

There's a Glock 9mm less than 3 feet from me as I lay in bed typing this. Shame on any gun owner who doesn't keep their gun available for immediate deployment.

When you shoot your wife, will you use the Pistorius defense?
