I am looking to rent a studio soon but my budget is a little low, $1,000-$1,200 a month. I've only ever lived in Bensonhurst and Bay Ridge areas in Brooklyn but I'm not sure if I can find anything within my budget there. Everything seems to be so expensive these days. I work in downtown Manhattan where most train stations are nearby and don't mind the longer commute. Is there a safe area where I could possibly find a studio within my budget?
He said he's always lived in Brooklyn and works in lower Manhattan. WHY would anyone suggest Tthe Bronx???
Look around in your local newspapers (the pennysaver and ones like that). Also, check out bulletin boards in your local grocery stores. ASK people you know in the area. I think for $1K-$1200, you should be able to find a studio in your area or close by.

I thought you could still find $1200 studios in Bay Ridge. Have you started your search? Try local realtors -- the kind you see in storefronts near where you are hoping to live.
$1000-$1200 can do a lot. You could find something in washington heights, hamilton heights, and the bronx. Parts of harlem might also be possible. There are probably several options out in Queens and Brooklyn. Also, New Jersey and Stamford CT.
You probably could find a studio for that budget in Rego Park, Queens but you definitely would have a longer commute.
