I was able to peek into a high floor apartment in Crossing that faces the city and wanted to share. It seems all the photos posted on blogs have been from Commons, but Crossing has some incredible looking apartments.

Yeah, that's a high rent for a middle income person, just like the rent prices in Manhattan. I guess they are comparable due to views of skyline.

I fall in the middle-income bracket on my own and I have never cheated on my taxes. Thankfully I no longer have student loans and keep my credit card balances low. The rent will be tight and I agree that it feels like a lot. But as others have pointed out its a pretty good deal for the area.

Truthfully, I had planned on moving from NY and purchasing a home elsewhere but it just doesnt feel like the right time.
I was being somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Apologies for the offense.

Perhaps it's feasible if your salary is near the top of the bracket. But I'm a few thousand above the lower end, and to me, it would be about 60% of my take-home. (I also have no credit card or student loan debt, considerable savings, etc.) I think that's pretty objectively unaffordable, so I'm not sure why they set the floor of that bracket so low. *shrug*

Definitely not at the top of the bracket...but yeah...I feel you, 69K-97k is such a huge gap and definitely wished I could pay less. Initially they calculated my income wrong and they put me in the high bracket requesting that I pay $2500 a month...More than 60% my take home and I was gonna walk away but she said if I re-submitted pay stubs they would adjust it. What would have happened if I didnt speak up? How many others are being stiffed? Low and behold I qualified for the $1900 apartments but there were none left :-( From $2500 to $1900..not sure where they are getting their calculations from

Yeah, you've definitely got to be your own advocate. Good for you, speaking up.

At least the apartments will become a better deal over time, since the rent will get raised at lower percentages than the rent for market-rate apartments. Hopefully you'll love it and want to stay long enough that it will be a fabulous deal!

That unit had a NW exposure. From the window you could see all the way to the financial district though, so you really did get an entire view of the skyline.
