It's not a big deal and nothing to worry about. They have you drag a litter basket through an obstacle course simulating parked cars. You also have to lift up bags of different weights and put them in a container. It's a joke.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/22/ny...2superman.html

Quote:
In the first phase, applicants must drag four 30-pound wastebaskets — like the ones found on street corners across the city — one at a time to a container eight feet away, made of plywood and metal and modeled after the back of a garbage truck.

The applicants must lift each basket and dump the simulated trash — including weighted materials like a rope packed in a nylon bag — then drag the basket back to the starting line. The baskets’ contents gradually increase in weight from 3 to 15 pounds.

Participants must then drag a fifth basket holding a 35-pound bag, lift the bag out and place it in the container.
The exercise must then be repeated, only this time the receptacles must be moved around a plywood box that simulates a car.

After a two-minute rest, applicants move to the second phase, which consists of five consecutive tasks.
The first is to carry or drag eight items ranging in weight from 8 pounds to 55 pounds between two boxes and place them in the container.

The next two tasks require going over a simulated snow bank and around a simulated parked car to get the eight items into the container. The fourth task requires applicants to carry six items through a simulation of double-parked cars. And the final task is carrying seven items over a mock railroad tie before dumping them into the container.

To pass, applicants must complete the first phase in 3 minutes 31 seconds and the second in 6 minutes.

Hello. I have a Question. I am thinking about switching over from NYC DOE to DSNY and wanted to know if my 8 years will come with me in terms of seniority and retirement?

Seniority lol no. Retirement yes but on the back end. You still have to do the full 22 1/2 years to receive the full pension, but then you will get credit for 30 1/2 years maxing out your percentage.

8 years with doe means probably teir 4, so 20 years of employment with dsny, retire with 28 years.

Oh yeah forgot they get grandfathered in. Wouldn't be hired by DSNY for 2 years anyway so they would get at least the 30 year pension %.
