If you enjoy reading, here's a short list of novels, set in specific Brooklyn neighborhoods.

A Brooklyn Literary Map: The Best Book for Each Brooklyn Neighborhood | Brooklyn Magazine

Did anyone enjoy these suggested titles, or have additional suggestions (by neighborhood) ?

Brooklyn Magazine compiled these, but really it could work for any of the boroughs.

The list mentions Hubert Selby Jr. but not his best known book Last Exit to Brooklyn. I think it was set mostly in Sunset Park. The tough waterfront neighborhoods.

Yes, interesting that they didn't go with Selby's Last Exit To Brooklyn or with Henry Miller's Tropic Of Capricorn. Neither novel showed much love for Brooklyn and both suffered bans around the world and in the U.S.

There's an excellent 1977 horror film, The Sentinel, set in a Brooklyn brownstone. You can see the brownstone in the trailer:

Well...the cast looks excellent, particularly drunken train wreck Ava Gardner.

Did Walt Whitman (perhaps Brooklyn's greatest ever man of letters) ever write a novel of Brooklyn?

One of the best of the "Leaves of Grass" is the poem, CROSSING BROOKLYN FERRY.
(Probably Whitman looking for hot sailors.)

Of course the most definitive Brooklyn literary character is Brookyn's famous flying elephant, DUMBO.
