I didn't mean to imply that there was little hope for change. Crime has dropped dramatically in Fordham over time, and I find it encouraging that people like Father Jenik are working to address the problems of the community. I also believe that the majority of residents are hard-working and care about their families and their communities. I suspect that those not looking out for their children had them for the wrong reasons and more often than not tend to be on public assistance. With more and more landlords no longer accepting section 8 or other programs, hopefully this population will continue to decline. At least there is practically no public housing in the area. I certainly don't mean to paint everyone on assistance with the same brush, so please don't take my comments as a condemnation of everone on public assistance.

If you look at a map, anything west of the Grand Concourse is West Bronx. It was in an article I read. Since they were talking about Valentine, it's close enough to GC that they said West Bronx. But they were talking about train station, I wonder if it's Jerome.

West of Bronx Park is generally considered the West Bronx, FYI.

Nope. Those neighborhoods are in the western half of the borough, but they're not west Bronx. East Tremont, Fordham etc are central because they're really almost in the middle...(Fordham east of Concourse btw). If you check out any telecasts of Uni Heights, Morris Heights...you see them say a "west Bronx" man blah blah......that's the true west.

But I dont want to get into this.

lol......it's too small an area. For 183rd for example...fro East to West.....Jerome, Davidson, Grand, Aqueduct, University, Andrews, Loring Pl, Sedgwick, Cedar, Major Deegan....that's it?

According to Wikipedia:

West Bronx

The western parts of the Bronx are hilly and are dominated by a series of parallel ridges, running south to north. The West Bronx has older tenement buildings and apartments as well as mansions in Riverdale. It includes three of the Bronx's largest neighborhoods: Kingsbridge, University Heights, and Riverdale, as well as the large Van Cortlandt Park. The Grand Concourse, a wide boulevard runs through it, north to south.

1950s NBA basketball star Dolph Schayes and sociologist Barry Wellman grew up near the Grand Concourse and 183rd Street, which was considered part of the West Bronx before the demographic and socioeconomic changes of the 1970s.

We aregue over the south Bronx.....and now the west Bronx. How nice

I'm sorry I can't help myself either. The Norwood News refers to itself as a newspaper serving West Bronx neighborhoods (including Norwood), which of course is east of the Grand Concourse and Jerome. Did anyone ever see the PBS show "A walk in the Bronx"? It also refers the West Bronx as west of Bronx Park. I wouldn't put too much stock in Wikipedia. Who knows who the contributors are.
