The West central Bronx is basically all old tenements..most of which are not in the best condition....there are rows and rows of them..and not much else. Alot of negative chi I would say.

Yeah I agree. I think it was the first part of the Bronx to be annexed. That's why they use Manhattan's street numbering system. It's very old, and mostly all tenements. Not as much projects as other parts. But the tenements are disgusting. If you ever want to see the horendous conditions of these building, take a ride on the 4 train.....from 161st to Kingsbridge the buildings are bombed out with graffiti. Specifically on the rooftops.
That's my only complaint though...but hey it's old.

Yeah unfortunately they are in far worse condition than the housing projects...these tenements are the kinds of poor housing conditions that you hear about on the news.

so you have streets, such as east tremont avenue, that are in the west bronx?
thats like saying east 96th street in manhattan is on the west side.
i always say the west bronx streets got the W and the east bronx streets got the E...otherwise what is distinguishing their location?

No, west of Jerome is W (W 176th) not because of it's location in the Bronx. If you look at a map, Jerome is the halfway point between Manhattan and The Bronx's western half. So it's working off Manhattan. That's why you have so a little streets in the Bronx with the W designation. In fact, I'd say that 90% of the Bronx is E ( E 176th). Take it with a grain of salt.
I choose the Concourse because it's the farthest east that IMO isn't central. There is still a little area between GC and Deegan but geographically they fall in nicely.

I'll have to put in my 2 cents. To me it makes sense that the E streets are in the East Bronx and the W streets are in the West Bronx. I prefer the areas of the Bronx with the older buildings. They are much nicer looking IMO. A lot of the newer stuff they are building is of questionable taste and of low quality in my opinion.

this should be pretty straight forward but is it? because E-Tremont is "East" but most people refer to it as the central bronx. So i guess the east of jerome theorem doesn't always apply now does it. Though I have never heard anyone refer to anything east of the concourse as west bronx.

i was being a little sarcastic....but my theory is west of jerome is west bronx....i have friends that live on east 184th between creston and the concourse and i never heard them call themselves west bronx. my cousins used to live on 174th and university....thats the west bronx.
