Commute Time from Jersey
I've recently accepted a position with a firm on W. 66th St. I'm going to be temporarily living in Ramsey, New Jersey. I know things get congested during the morning rush but I'm not sure just how bad it gets. I don't want to be late the first day but I also don't want to show up 2 hours early either. Can anyone give me a guesstimate as to what would be a good time to leave to be at work at 7AM.

It's tough to say. I think Paramus is about 12 miles from the GWB, plus add the distance from Paramus to Ramsey(about 10 or more?) and from the GWB to 66th street (about 6 miles).
My guess is you'd be taking rte 17 to 4 or 80 so you'd have to factor in the travel time on that combo plus the dreaded bridge crossing and W side hwy traffic(you could try Riverside Drive which I have found to be a quick alternate to the W side hwy)
Another alternate is the Tappan Zee bridge to the Saw Mill River pkwy (exit 7a on I 87) which leads you right into the W side hwy but of course then you are dealing with TZ bridge traffic and w side traffic
have you considered a NJ bus which can take you to the GWB bus terminal at 178th street, after which you can take the A to 59th street or 1 train to 66th street or transferring from the A to the 1 at 168th street
or perhaps the Pascack Valley commuter train from Suffern, NY (I don't if Ramsey has a train station on that line) or from Montvale into Hoboken, taking the PATH across to 33rd street and taking the 1 train up to 66th
All are possibilities, but time consuming

Try the trip planner at njtransit.com

My guess is your commute via mass transit will be about 1.5 hours door to door depending on how you'll getting into the city. You'll also have to factor in taking the train up to 66th St. I don't recommend driving into the city.

Take the train! Definitely do not drive or take a bus if you don't want to be late your first day. The traffic is absolutely unpredictable.
