I was born and raised in NYC, lived there for 40+ years, but have found the space and quiet of "cool" small towns nearby (like Montclair where I've been the past 3 years) to be to my liking. I'm not looking to be surrounded by just rich idiots and would like a place with a nice "walking" downtown, some galleries, culture, active residents, diverse people....etc....that's not too far away. Maybe a college or 2 nearby or in town. The kind of place where people prefer going to town rather than the local mall.....

Any ideas folks?

Nyack, NY, Piermont, NY, Hastings on Hudson, irvington, Dobbs Ferry, Pelham, I was thinking about Scarsdale or Bxville but those are wealthy places which doesn't sound like youd like those

my cousins lived in Montclair from '72 to '85. from what i recall its kind of like the places i mentioned, maybe a little bigger
