My dad is a mechanic. It's hard to get a job when you tell someone you studied "automotive" yet you haven't done any "technical" work so they have no idea whether or not you can perform. That's like saying I've studied ballet but not technically but you should assume I'm a great ballet dancer.

You'd be surprised. That didn't help me one bit and I'd consider myself to have a "marketable degree". The majority of students get their job offers (networks) before they ever do the graduation walk. There are just too many people and not enough entry-level jobs in this city. Education is only a minor thing to employers apparently.
