I grew up in Flushing and it was a great place to grow up. I lived at the north end, almost Whitestone and almost Bayside. I left in 1981. As mentioned, it is a huge geographic area to be called one neighborhood. Here in Brooklyn, that amount of space would be considered at least 4 or 5 separate distinct neighborhoods.

Are you referring to Flushing proper, or anything designated as Flushing, NY by the post office? If the latter, I don't think most people go by that in real life. I never hear people refer to Corona or Forest Hills as Flushing

Not only Downtown Flushing, but also East Flushing, Auburndale, Kew Gardens Hills, Utopia, Murray Hill, Clearview, and even Fresh Meadows and Hillcrest, would be referred to as Flushing at times.
In East flushing (Murray hill, Broadway, Bayside and Little Neck) most business are Korean. I wonder why the Chinese domination in the main street has not extended eastwards
Traveled back and forth for over 30 years to visit family and friends
who still reside in the neighborhood.
Northern Blvd at Main st. was beautiful back in the 70's,80's and even late 90's.
As far as Parsons and Northern Blvd? Sorry Pal .It's gotten a bit clammy there as of recent.
The filthy street started at Northern Blvd. and Main st. and now continuously creeps Eastward.
I have seen it dirty out to Bell blvd.
What is disturbing is that this is a huge upper middle class neighborhood.
I have been in poor neighborhoods that were spotless.
My grandmother use to sweep the streets after the street sweeper went by because it left some dirt behind.
Imagine that? Not all people carry the same type mindset whether it be singular or as a plurality.
Its all about congestion and the way people live. I'm know there a blocks where neighbors pitch in and do a fine job.
Sanitation really needs to be proactive and stay on top of the trouble spots to keep it clean.
If the city created tax lowering incentives for homeowners by rewarding them for keeping their streets cleaned
things might change but then again city can't make revenue if it can't hand out dirty sidewalk tickets.......
Ho...Hum.......

It’s been busy densifying the area more immediate to the 7 train. It’s also been pushing along College Point, Main, and Kissena.
Flushing is hood now with the exception of a few large Asian areas.
