how rotten the leadership team is...

shortly after deblashow vowed to fight traffic violation or jaywalking in nyc, his vehicle was caught zooming through a stop sign and he was caught jaywalking realtime...

If you click on that news link, it also says that her son pleaded guilty to charges of drunken driving in a hit and run of a cyclist.

Clearly, she is pro-driver and probably has contempt for non-drivers. I can't think of a worse person to be in charge of the DMV. She needs to be disgracefully removed. Folks need to write to Governor Cuomo.

Queen's District Attorney's attitude toward the death of this child - "Accidents happen"

"This Office takes very seriously it’s [sic] responsibility to investigate and prosecute drivers whose criminal conduct results in death or serious injury on the roadways of Queens County. There are occasions as in this matter, however, when accidents occur which are not the result of criminality"

What a piece of sh1t

That crossed my mind actually and I believe it has something to do with it. If the child was white and not from an immigrant family, you know there would be greater outrage from the public and from law enforcement.

Provide a link showing where that has happened.

The DA's reasoning and judgment are frightening for nyc pedestrians, whose lives and safety are under the mercy of left-/right-turning motorists, as long as they have a valid license and on green light and unimpaired, they can charge into pedestrians and get away without any legal consequences...

This has to be a textbook case for future american law students to study.

"As you know, the accident occurred as Allison crossed Main Street in a crosswalk with her grandmother. The motorist who struck her had a valid driver’s license and a green light to make a left turn. The driver remained on the scene and waited for police to arrive. The driver was administered two breathalyzer tests (PBTs) on the scene and the results of the test did not rise to the level of impairment. In fact, the PBT readings were such that, pursuant to Vehicle and Traffic Law (VTL) Sect. 1195(2)(b), they were “prima facie evidence that the ability of such person to operate a motor vehicle was not impaired by the consumption of alcohol and that such person was not in an intoxicated condition.” Additionally, there was no evidence of excessive speed or phone usage at the time of the collision. That's what America is really about these days, sadly. There's a simple truth that everyone in politics keep denying.

I do not think that racism is at work here but more of a problem when morons are in charge with a very backward ruling on this matter, which I was not aware of. I will exercise extra caution when crossing the death walks in nyc from now on.

Read the article below. Yes, this driver has been charged but for up to 15-days in prison? That sounds like an awful amount of prison time for killing a boy and injuring another in one hit.... wait until the ghetto thugs learn the trick of motor homicide encouraged by this friendly legal system.

Cab driver charged in Upper West Side accident that killed 9-year-old boy

The cabbie who hit and killed 9-year-old Cooper Stock, as the child crossed the street with his father, has been charged in the boy’s death, the Daily News has learned.
Driver Koffi Komlani was arrested Oct. 8 and charged with failure to exercise due care by the Manhattan district attorney, sources said Thursday.

The taxi driver who killed a 9-year-old boy as he crossed an Upper West Side street with his father in January has now been charged by the Manhattan District Attorney. Koffi Komlani was arraigned in criminal court on October 7th and charged with one count of Failure to Exercise Due Care, which is a traffic infraction. The penalty, if convicted, is a maximum 15 days in jail, a $750 fine, and a license suspension.
Komlani was released on his own recognizance, and his license was suspended at the time of his arraignment. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 4th.
Cooper was holding is father's hand as they crossed West 97th Street at West End Avenue when Komlani turned into them, striking both and killing the child. After the fatal crash, Komlani was issued a summons for failure to yield and released.
In May, Stock's mother, Dana Lerner, said the DA told her they would not press criminal charges against Komlani. "They told me there is nothing in the law right now that specifies that he can be charged with any crime,” Lerner said at the time. "The laws in New York state which say you can kill someone and not face any real consequences are appalling, and they need to be changed.”
In February, Councilmember Helen Rosenthal, who represents the Upper West Side, introduced "Cooper's Law," intended to strip cab drivers of their TLC licenses if they kill or maim a pedestrian as a result of failing to yield. The City Council passed the bill in May. Following a series of pedestrian deaths, the DOT also announced safety improvements on the Upper West Side, including the intersection where Cooper was killed.
It's unclear why the DA has now charged Komlani, but Cooper's mother is far from satisfied, telling the Daily News, "He wasn’t speeding, he just didn’t stop. He hit two people and a child died. That’s not a traffic violation. That’s a crime."
Paul Steely White, the Executive Director of Transportation Alternatives, says, "This is not Justice. This late and tiny penalty does not fit the crime. We are redoubling our efforts to ensure that DA’s finally start holding reckless drivers accountable for their criminal actions."
