if i pick up my brother from the main terminal at Airtran at either arrivals or departures (less vehicles waiting perhaps at departures?) do agents discourage vehicles from waiting too long to pick up people coming out of the terminal? do they tell you you have to move on?

I'm pretty sure they do tell you to move on within a few minutes. I pick up people at LGA a few times a year and I usually just pay the fee to park in the lot and go in by foot to meet them at arrivals. If you feel like you don't want to pay the $ for the parking (I believe it's $4 per half hour) and your brother has a cell phone, just wait in a residential neighborhood nearby in East Elmhurst on the street, and once he calls you, head over there.

It's a bit of a hazy memory, but I think I tried the "pick up at arrivals" thing, ended up being told to move on, and had to thread my way driving through that mess they call an airport in order to kill ten minutes and try again. That wasn't worth it to me.

Last time I went (a few months ago) the parking was a nightmare. Part of it was under construction and the signs were messed up. I ended up trying to get in the parking lot, finding the entrance to Terminal C parking closed off once I had already turned to get in there, and then having to do the whole route through the airport again. Then in the end I had to park in the parking at the far end for Terminal D, which was about a 10 minute walk from arrivals in the terminal I needed to go to.

However, if you have plenty of time, none of that should really matter- - it was just time consuming and a little nerve wracking because I don't like to drive that much.

I am not sure about parking at a hotel, but you might be able to figure it out on street view. The streets themselves in that area are only about a 5 minute drive from the airport.

When I have been picked up by someone at LGA, I call them after my arrival and let them know when I will be ready to be picked up so they don't come into the airport beforehand as they don't really allow drivers to wait in their cars near the arrivals or departures areas outside the terminals.

Agreed as I have waited 15 minutes to be picked up that way and it was no big deal!

I am a big fan of car services. For going from or to Manhattan, I prefer Carmel Car & Limo. Going to LGA or JFK from Brooklyn, I prefer Bushwick Car Service. Arriving at the airports and going to Brooklyn, I prefer Northside. We have a car but the services are zero hassle for me and pretty idiot proof for the arriving passengers.

Why two companies for Brooklyn service, you ask? Northside is much faster on airport pickups IMO. Bushwick is $10 cheaper and arrive just as fast at my home than Northside. Hey $10 is $10.

Think I will start a thread on this subject.

I use Mexicana Mexicana Car & Limo - Jackson Heights - Jackson Heights, NY | Yelp They are generally on time, reliable, polite, have clean cars, and the price seems ok. I had only one bad experience, which I reported to the company and they were apologetic and said they would take care of it.
