NYC DOE officials have told public schools to expect large numbers of "migrant" children to arrive over the next few years.

Kids with single parent are already performing poorly. Any school takes these unaccompanied kids will be downgraded even further.

Surprised that the linked article still describes them as illegal. Wake up to the reality, ppl, they are as legal as you and I from now. It is a big happy family now because father obama just brought us all together.

Will the govt pick winners and losers here (I.e. overcrowd schools where they aren't zoned to) or are the kids just going to say with family and enroll into local schools just like everyone else. If the latter I don't see the big deal. There's already tens of thousands more illegals and children of illegals in the school system. If people aren't happy then they should all make sure to vote next time around.

More Mexicans, more taxes, more traffic, more people not paying hospital bills, more federal help, more of everything equals lower disposable income.

I'm an immigrant from Europe.

When do they get free housing, free breakfast, free lunch, and free day care??? What's the dollar cost for all of this? NYC and NYS see no problem with raising the metro card or tolls? raising the fares on the Lirr/metro north?

I think the tolls have more to do with the giant office building and train station complex they are building on Fulton St.

Typical biased, shoddy, and one-sided reporting from the Post.

--The headline talks of a "flood" of illegal immigrants. We are talking here about 2350 kids. Out of a public school population of one million kids that comes out to all of 2/10 of one percent, and only two-thirds on one percent share of the estimated number of undocumented kids already enrolled. That's hardly a flood. More like a trickle.

--“It is expected that children will continue to arrive in large numbers in the coming years,” says a DOE memo to principals obtained by The Post. This screams for some follow up. How many more kids we talking about here? Another 750 in Queens? Another 50 in Staten Island? Did the paper even bother ask the DOE or the writer of the memo? No. Guess they just rather run with a single inflammatory, unattributed quote. And not mention that those 2350 kids just about balances out the # of deportations in NYC last year.

--"On Long Island and upstate, several school districts have been accused of blocking enrollment of migrant youths by demanding a birth certificate, proof of residency and education records from their home countries. Oh. So some other districts are essentially foisting their migrant kids onto NYC. Well, who the hell are they? Anybody would want to know. Except the NY Post, which didn't bother with an obvious follow up.

This papers sucks and always has. There probably is a good story to be done here about immigrant kids and education.

This isn't it.
