Look into adding comprehensive coverage with a 0 deductible to your policy. My car window was broken a couple years ago and it cost $180 to fix, while my deductible was $200.

However I was able to lower my deductible to $0 for only $26 dollars for the entire year. The GEICO rep said it varies depending on the state laws, so while I can do that here in NY, if I was across the river in NJ it's be quite expensive.

be aware that a claim of only a few hundred bucks can end up costing thousands.

while comprehenive claims can not get you a rise in insurance premiums from your own company in ny they can get you dropped ,but more important it is reported to CLUE..

if you shop for insurance any blemish can count very heavily in your new rate.

a claim for a stolen air bag was held against me when i was shopping for better insurance rates to the tune of a few thousand more a year . . even auto insurer sponsered road side assistance can be reported to CLUE .

THOSE JUMPS CAN PORTRAY YOU AS DRIVING AN ILL=MAINTAINED CAR .

RUN OUT OF GAS ? NOT A VERY RESPONSIBLE DRIVER.

you can check your clue report once a year for free.

all those windshields my jeep buddies had replaced ended up costing them dearly when shopping for new insurance or dropped. If you are checking your report run both property and vehicle. many times like credit reports there are errors.

you can get yours free here from lexis nexis .

And that's why you want a policy with a very high deductible and use it only for catastrophic loss.

I did one better, I dumped the car, the insurance, the gasoline needs, the repairs, after a drunk cop smashed into it while it was parked on Christmas Eve. (He hit 6 cars while trying to get out of my building complex. He must have thought he was in a bumper car.
