Default London to New York - The BIG move!

Hi everyone,

I'm just about to complete my studies at university in London and I'm currently on the look out for work in New York. I'm ready for a change, a new experience and a new challenge.

I've been seeking advice on visas etc but if anyone can help out in anyway that would be most appreciated.

Anyone name any good places to look for apartments to rent/areas etc?

Claire

Check the US consulate or embassy about visas. You have a long wait ahead of you.

It's next to impossible to get sponsored in this economy. The market is saturated with overqualified Americans and companies have their pick of very talented locals. If you just have an undergrad degree and no experience you will not be competitive for a work visa here. You have to have some very, highly specialized knowledge so that companies can demonstrate that no Americans can perform the job duties of the job they are sponsoring you for. Plus if you do somehow get a job, companies are restructuring every few months and constantly laying people off. It's not worth it to take such a big risk during such shaky times.

Biskit, it seems that the recession is hitting England real bad also - there seems to be an upsurge in people from there seeking employment here. Unfortunately, somehow, many think that the visa issue is a minor one and that job opportunities are in excellent shape here even now.
