I was driving someone else's car the other day and got a ticket for not having annual inspection done on this car. I plan to appeal as it was not my car and I think I am not liable. Do you guys think I have a shot at going to court and winning it? I don't want to pay $150 for stupid thing like this.

the laws usually hold the driver responsible to make sure the vehicle they drive has insurance and valid registration and inspection sticker. the burdon is thrown on the driver whether the owner or not. it is you that was in violation of the traffic laws by taking that vehicle and not paying attention of such things.

each day many many cars out there are driven by non owners so that is why the burdon of such things shifts to the driver.

this will be up to a judge to decide and no one can predict their verdict but basically you were guily of taking a car without a valid inspection sticker. guess who would have been scrwed if the car had no insurance ?.

Pay the $150 and get it back from your friend.

You were the driver of the car and, therefore, responsible to make sure everything is in order, including the inspection sticker. You are liable for the ticket.

On the other hand, you may get a nice judge (hopefully!)

Here's a NYC guide to parking and inspection tickets and how to fight them. Looks like you have no defense.
