Is it worth all the drama to even bother to arrest someone for THIS particular crime? He wasn't hurting anyone when he got caught selling loosies.

You see, the officers themselves involved in these incidents, do not end up undamaged. There's a decent chance the officer could lose their job (goodbye pension), plus you're demonized to the public.

It's why someone on this forum is saying officers should just drink coffee and go home in cases like this. I tend to agree, had they drank coffee and ignored Gardner selling cigarettes there wouldn't be protests all over because of this now.
The reason the cops were out there trying to clean up the streets was an order from the black commander of Staten Island in response to complaints from store owners . Damned if you do damned if you dont

No Brian1231, Damned if you kill, not damned if you act in compliance with the no choke policy, and watch over as a PEACE officer. Anyone who cannot maintain order over a guy peddling smokes w/o killing is unfit to wear a badge. Barney Fife could have done a better job.

After 1977 and the Crown Heights riots I think people in NYC are smart enough to not riot. Either that or because they all saw what happened in St Louis earlier.

Have you ever heard the saying, "Doctors bury their mistakes"? There are estimates that thousands die annually in the USA due to medical errors, mostly covered up. Unless there's an Angel of Death killing patients, no one gets arrested. Look at the doctors who killed Joan Rivers. You think any will face charges?

This is incorrect. If an officer is determined to have issued an improper complaint, he faces "Command Discipline", which can cost him 5 or 10 vacation days. Some have faced CDs for typos on summonses.

Brown's DNA was found on Wilson's gun, where Brown grabbed it.

So some guy gets caught doing something illegal (minor crime but whatever), proceeds to fight with the cops (because that's what you're supposed to do when they catch you doing something illegal right?) then bizzarly ends up dead many hours later because somebody put him in a choke hold to restrain him?

Phone me when something controversial happens.

That's crazy. A typo on a traffic ticket should not cost an officer lost vacation days, much less termination.
