Just started happening at 6:20pm here in Forest Hills, my super says something to do with city's water supply. Anyone else experiencing the same? Is this common?

I had it a couple weeks ago one morning. I'm in Ridgewood. Definitely not common. Was a one time thing for me.

Was there a fire near your house today?

Why is My Sink Water Yellow? | Redbeacon

It's normal to see yellow water once every few months as far as I remember. There is nothing to worry
about, just clear the water until it looks clean. Sometimes my neighbor would go open the fire hydrant
near by to clear the yellow water when this happen. It's faster and no extra cost on your water bill that
way.

Proper line maintenance involves the periodic opening of fire hydrants to flush the nearby mains. It SHOULD be done on a regular basis. When it happens your water will get dirty.

After it clears up again be sure to take out your faucet aerators and go at the screens with an old toothbrush because they probably picked up a lot of detritus.

But sometimes a single building will turn off it's water to fix a pipe. When the water is turned back again you get a surge of dirt.
