I was walking to go eat a restaurant in a high crime neighborhood in Brooklyn.
As I am walking and minding my own business a car full of under covers pull up next to me and ask where I am going. Understand this has never happened to me and since It was my first time I had went to this restaurant (read about it on Yelp) so I knew which direction but not exactly where it was...they found this "wierd".
I always read about these stories but never thought I would fall victim to it.
One claimes that someone might have thought I was following them. Lol ..I mean i had my North FAce coat with hoodie on 20 degree day.. Out of everyone they stop me ????
After checking my pockets and asking questions . They ran my license and couldnt believe that I had a clean record. While I was waiting for him to do this... The other cop kept asking my derogatory questions and trying to find a "hole" in my story... He couldnt because there wasnt any.
Wen they were done it was obvious they were upset because they thought they had their guy ... They refused to give me their badge numbers after me repeatedly asking for it. Then they simply murmured it as they got in their cars.. I also wrote down their license plate number.
This messed up my day .. And the cops where all (surprise suprise) White guys.
I feel extremely violated and embarrassed. iI know their story was BS because I had just walked out the train...
Is there anything I can do to get these racist morons in trouble ?? I KNOW they do this to many other honest , working minorities in this area.
I too had the same thing happen to me and my partner, right in front of our apartment building, a few summers ago. Same story.
It has since made me lose all respect for cops.
Fortunetely my partner had his brothers correction officer badge in his wallet, once they saw that the became just "oh so pleaseant", with a "have a nice night men".................
like are you kidding me, you already upset me.............
I was upset, beyond belief......All we were doing was coming home from an after dinner walk.....
PS: I am a white man of Greek descent, and I look it.....I can't help the way I look....
and unfortunetely for white cops, we can't all look "wholesome and waspy".....
Unfortunately there is not a whole lot you can do to get them in trouble, as stop and frisks are legal. There is a large movement of people who are working to stop them though- perhaps you could join up with them.
Black Cops and Latino Cops do this Stop & frisk too. So they are not always 'Racist' White Cops. You should see how 'Black' Police treat young poor people in some other countries in Africa. Much worse atrocities going on. It is not a racist thing. It is more of a power dynamic thing. Some cops like to feel powerful unfortunately.
Welcome to the club. About 10 yrs back, I was getting stopped every week at least 3x for almost a year. I moved because of the harassment. I did not know what to do at the time. I tried to get a badge number or name but was ignored. Tried to file a complaint but was told there is no issue, given the run around, ignored for hours, etc. that eventually I gave up hope. Never arrested at the time. And surprise, surprise, every incident involved white cops who would have an attitude and frequently use racial terms. I never did anything out of the ordinary. Who knows......bad informers, wrong intel? No clue.
i remember as a kid being frisked at least once a month. i hung out in canarsie at seaview park or the shopping center on rockaway parkway and seaview .
it was just crazy but it was was it was.
ooooh by the way this was back in the 1970's and i was a skinny white jewish kid.
the times were such that anyone with long hair was subject to a search for drugs at anytime.
was it fair or right ? nope but they profiled and went to where the issues were most likely to be statistically.
well that is how it is today only now statistically the profile has shifted to where they think they will get the greatest hits.
There is nothing you can do.
It's most likely gonna happen again you know.
