Upper West Side :

Tacky Rich People with no taste. Unworthy of living on the Upper East Side according to local Upper East Side residents. When you don't have the money or the status to live East then you go West.

Westhampton vs. Southhampton !!!

Better food and access to transportation. On the Upper East Side most people have maids to do that crap for them so it doesn't matter where they shop.

Upper East Side :

Way too many bitter old people that need to die off quickly to make room for the younger folk. Chances are your neighbor will be a little old lady who gets bothered by the sound of a television on level 3 volume.

Transportation sucks on the upper east side. Getting to the west side will entail an abusive transfer at the 59th street station. When you die you will have to go through 59th Street ! LOL

Much quieter than the West Side. This is the only advantage to living on the Upper East Side and it is closer to spanish harlem if you need a change of pace.

Plenty of persons live on the UES and manage to get over to the UWS without transferring at 59th or whatever.

For one thing that is what the cross town 72nd, 80th, 86th, 96th Street bus lines are about. If you want to be creative and or just cheap you take the bus going one way say at 80th then walk up to 86th to go back and use a free transfer.

You can transfer from any cross town bus to the subway as well.

If the weather is nice you can walk across Central Park.

When I have to get over to the West Side below CP just take the IRT to whatever street and simply walk. Do this to get to the Flat Iron District, Chelsea, West Village, Soho, Battery Park City, etc...

Sounds true. There's really not much to do on the East Side. But the West Side has all the stores, public transpo, performing art centers, etc.

All the stores at the East side are so dainty.
