I've been researching but to no avail,I saw this forum. Maybe my questions would be answered here.
Anyone that works as a PAA or knowledgeable:
1.Does the pay increase?
2.Is the health insurance good and other perks or benefits, and pointers to mention.
I currently got another job offer and want to compare this to my other job offer.

The pay increase every year or two depending on the bargaining agreement. Sometimes you get retroactive pay. The health insurance is excellent. You pay little to nothing for healthcare. The pay might not seem like much but when you add in the perks its another 5-10k respectively which is worth it.

The pay goes along with the union contract. Working for the city overall has great benefits. Not much cash overtime. Night differential if you work a third platoon or a midnight. Weekends off definitely not guaranteed. In fact, tell yourself that your tour is 1500x2300 with Tues/Wed rdo (you'll learn what that means when you're in the academy) the entire time. So you're not shocked if/when it happens. Promotion through civil service exam. I would do it because it's easier to navigate to other jobs when you already work for the city.
For those that started, how has it been so far? I know you can't tell much but a brief overview/general insight would be helpful.
