What area in Queens would I be able to buy a single family house under $550,000? It has to be close to the train and safe area.

Try Woodhaven, Ozone Park or Richmond Hill.

No train, unless LIRR counts. I was just thinking subway.

not sure such an area exists... 550k is either far from transportation or less desirable areas.

Thank you for all your input! I was looking to be near the MTA in areas closer to the city. I guess that is impossible.

All of it. No way anyone should pay more than a half a mil to live in Queens, LOL!!
Remember, the realtor works for you, not the other way around.

realtors aren't mind readers. Nor are we. Realtors are there to make money & no one likes to have their time wasted.

What the OP need to do is to go thru the process of learning needs & wants. No matter how large the budget, you can't have it all. Draw up a list of housing requirements. Then work from there as you focus on what is realistic.

Indeed. So you set the price at a quarter mil and thats that for Queens. This whole gentrification thing in the outer boroughs with the exception of a few neighborhoods is a bunch of smoke and mirrors. Long subway rides pressed up against the great unwashed.. how posh.. LOL!

Should probably slash Manhattan and Brooklyn prices by 80% as well. Especially Manhattan...the epicenter of over valued properties. At least I have a back yard to garden or blaze in.
