Thanks all for the information above! I thought Queens, Baruch and Hunter are all CUNY, some of the prestigious colleges within NYC. Are they really CCs? It sounds like that there is a lot of negativity towards CCs in terms of future employment opportunities. If that is the case, why would the government throw that amount of money into some trash education that would not help the students much anyway? But in my case, CC won't be the terminal education for my child but a starting point for the sake of the free tuition.

I would NEVER attend any community college from anywhere! The reasons already have been clearly stated in this thread. Each bubble expands untill it ultimately burst, and than we're back in an other rescission. China, being the biggest global bubble fiscally. The market is already over saturated with Associate and Bachelor degrees. Do you think all this Latin American amnesty is by accident?! Two bubbles have already burst in this country in less than 20years within the global stock exchange. Gold is up and the value of the USD, is down.

Why? Buy your vote plain and simple. The difference appears to be that this proposal is targeting the middle class and up as cc's are already fully covered by need based financial aid if you're low income. In fact most cc students in NYC get paid a few thousand dollars a year to go. I'm wondering if they'll get to keep the full pell grant (around 6k with the 1k proposed increase) even though the school would be free.

In any case I doubt this measure would pass and Obama knows that. This is just another political ploy to draw their line on the sand before the next election. For the surburban upper middle class kid attending a cc the message is clear from the dems, we will help you because you deserve help. Now I'm all for buying favors and corrupting people, buy can they stop doing it with other people's hard earned tax money.

Queens, Baruch, and Hunter are not CCs. They are 4 year colleges complete with graduate/masters programs.
