From parts of the Bronx yes. You'll have to check with others on here that know the borough better. I don't think it would be consistently possible from anywhere in Manhattan.

You can live in Queens if you don't mind the toll across the white stone bridge

I did this for years from the upper west side. 30-35 minutes in the morning and 45 minutes coming home. Count on 1.5 hours one day a month on the way home due to accident/weather.

highly considering this. 30 minutes isn't bad at all. gf works in white plains, myself in midtown. how is parking on the UWS?

Might make more sense to live in White Plains and commute via metro north to the city.

Rents are much less for much better space, commute would be less stressful and you will save NYC income tax on 2 salaries.

If you're looking at UWS then also look at upper manhattan Inwood / Wash Heights. Its closer to the westchester county border and you get more for your money. UWS is very expensive, do you have the budget to live there?

Street parking is pretty awful in manhattan, especially before and after work hours. You will probably need to budget for a parking space. In Upper manhattan I parked my car at one lot for $200 / month which is super cheap. $250-$300 is more realistic. In UWS and more trendy places it will cost much more.
