Goodwill on W. 25th St. bet. 6th and 7th Aves. in Manhattan is pretty good. There are a couple of other vintage places on that same block although I have a feeling they are a bit pricey.

I still say the best vintage stores are in middle america away from NYC. You would be surprised what you would find in a vintage store in Florida or California. Lots of gems. Something to think about when you visit the folks over the holidays.

A lot of NYC vintage store owners probably get their clothing from shopping trips down south. They don't frequent other stores as much as they do garage sales, church sales and flea markets. I know one store owner that does this and I've seen enough episodes of American Pickers (even though that's not for clothing) to suspect it's normal practice. One of my favorite vintage stores was from my college days in Charlottesville, VA. I'm sure her supply came from church and garage sales in the surrounding county.

So handy that you asked now, because I've been selling to some vintage stores.

I suppose I'd say Buffalo Exchange or Beacon's Closet. I dislike them, and it's debatable how "vintage" they are, but they're certainly cheap. You might just cruise around, because "vintage" covers a very broad range, and a lot of places specialize. Goodwill, of course, is not vintage. Goodwill is people's trash, and although you may get lucky, don't confuse the two.

You might also check out Family Jewels on 23rd. I was in there the other day, and although I didn't look at their prices, I discovered that they're going to be closing in April, so that may well me that they'd be likely to cut you a good deal.

Thank you, I'll check them all out.

By the way, I went to the big vintage show last week, and it looked to me as though there must be a bunch of lower-priced places outside of Manhattan.
