Parkchester

Once upon a time there was green grass, flowers and the security
of living in Parkchester. Local stores, theaters, supermarkets and
everything anyone could want right at your fingertips.
Today, watch out!
Gangs roam the streets of 177th street, Westchester Ave, Gun Hill Road, White Plains Road and Tremont Ave. They own the streets around Parkchester.
Young white females should stay out of Parkchester! There are many other
places in the Bronx for you to live where you will be much safer....
Most of these have already been mentioned by the female cop who posted a message on the site.
Take her advise!

First off, you would be one of few whites in that area. I don't know how comfortable you are w/that but speaking as a white female myself, there is no way I would live there. Also, PC is known for robberies and shootings. I would NOT recommend ANYONE living there. The buildings in PC are beautiful, art deco buildings and it is convenient to the express bus & 6 train to midtown. But the summers there are hell and unless you don't mind being up all night bc the area natives feel like blasting music at 2am, I would suggest against it. The apts. there are VERY affordable but there's an obvious reason for that.
If you want a coop or condo, I suggest Riverdale on the other side of the Bronx. If you want to rent an apt. go to Woodlawn, Morris Park, Throgs Neck, City Island or Pelham Bay and rent something in a private house. You will be better off.
And no one get their panties in a bind over what I said. It's the God's honest truth about that place. Some may like it for whatever reason but this woman needs some honesty and not sugar coating.

Parkchester
You appearantly don't read the newpapers my friend
or else you would know what is going on right under your very nose!
If you live in Parkchester then for sure you must know about the
gangs that are feared on the streets around Parkchester. Don't pretend they
don't exist, everyone knows they do exist. They rule the streets and will cut down anyone who challenges them.
Not a place for a 22 year old teacher...

Macy's
Starbucks
Pizzeria Uno
LOTS of park/greenery
Co-ops/Rentals
Movie Theater
Express Train to Manhattan
Mostly working/middle class community of color
NO parking
walkable, self contained community
Private security plus NYPD
Safety (which does not = crime free...it is NYC)

My sis has been living there for about 5-6 years now. She has not once given me a complaint about gangs in Parkchester.
I've been visiting her there the whole time she's lived there, only once did I see any kind of gang activity. I saw one kid with beads and some kids giving him funny looks like they wanted to start something. But nothing happened.
I don't doubt that there is some gang activity in the area and crime, just trying to give another point of view to keep things in perspective.
But hey my sis is a young Latina, so maybe it's okay for her. Just you young White girls watch out...

Yes..lets not forget during that once upon a time FAIRYTALE of idyllic paradise that was Parkchester, they purposely EXCLUDED anyone who was not white from living there...so there was a blissful carefree, accepted, and promoted hate and discrimination against anyone who was even remotely not white. Yes Parkchester had everything you could ever want..so long as you were white.
But hey...why ruin the fairytale with silly facts and reality....while you live in the fairytale...everyone else lives in reality. And for the record, your fearmongering about Parkchester being taken over by gangs is laughable...and single white females, or any other females, males, and kids, are doing just fine in Parkchester. Thanks for the ignorant post though..nice job!

Parkchester
Parkchester is a community unto itself! It's a apartment complex
with nice apartments in ajoining buildings about 6 - 8 floors high maybe more
However, the nice thing about Parkchester is it's unique private type community
complex right in the heart of the North-East Bronx. This feature can be good or
bad depending on the people who live in Parkchester.
Parkchester has supermarkets, department stores, restaurants, small shops of
all kinds, movie theaters, and local transportation at your fingertips. Buss & Subway
People who are New Yorkers, street smart, and have friends in the area can live very
comfortably in Parkchester but outsiders who do not know the Bronx and are not
street smart can easily fall into the wrong hands.
It has been a long time since I lived in Parkchester, 1962 to be exact, and at that
time it was predominately white middle class working families who lived there. I lived at 22 Metropolitan Oval. Two bed room apartment with my grandmother.
Today Parkchester has changed just like other areas of NYC. You will have to do your homework and check it out as we say in NY.
Good luck

Response to a balanced perspective!
Thanks for your balanced perspective! Yes you are course correct.
Who you are in Parkchester does make a very big difference and who
you know in Parkchester can't hurt either.
This got started by a 22 year old out of town school teacher who is
considering moving into Parkchester while she does her student teaching.
I'm glad that your balanced perspective included the caution message at the
end of your post...
Thanks for your imput. Very much appreciated.

Meet!
Guy,
I will be visiting Parkchester in the near future to visit some friends
who live there. Oh yes, didn't I tell you about my latino friends who I
grow up with in the Bronx. Jose Hernandez who's brother was killed
in Viet Nam. Emilio Ciena, Dante Cruz or Hector Ortiz. We went to school together. We were best friends.
We didn't know any better back then!
I let you know what I think about your Parkchester!

Parkchester
  Move someplace else!
Parkchester is not the preferred place for a white female from out of town
to move into
There are other places in the Bronx for you to move to before Parkchester!
Keep in touch
