Default This apartment in Park Slope

I find the below posting on craiglist, is it good? The price seems below average in park slope. Is it a safe place to live and easy to commute to midtown and downtown manhattan? Thanks.
=============
This huge, sunfilled, 2 bedroom apartment is situated on Prospect Av3., between 8th ave and Prospect Park West. It is just steps to the F train lines, Prospect Park, and all Park Slope has to offer. The apartment has a huge back yard,great kitchen, 2 large bedrooms, a large living room, lts of light and closet space. $1600/month.
=============

It may be true or not, it does seem a little low for the area. Prospect Ave is getting to the south of central Park Slope, near where it blends into Windsor Terrace. It is an attractive area, it is steps to the 15th Street stop on the F, it's safe and there are some stores, etc., there, including a walkable supermarket, but it's going to be less expensive than some other areas of Park Slope like around 3rd Street.

I think Prospect Ave. itself is nice, but not a gorgeous brownstone block, though those are nearby. The commute is not horrible, things take a little long on the F sometimes for my taste, but you can change at Jay St for the A or C to get to lower Manhattan. Midtown is slower, but you can get the A at Jay or take the F all the way to Broadway/Lafayette for the B/D express. Even midtown is not terrible, though I wouldn't call it "easy" if by easy you mean "fast"

I am looking for an apartment in Park Slope becasue I think it will cost me less time from there to downtown (lower part) than from Forest Hills on F train which is more than 1 hour. But to midtown (Rock Center) maybe is not as fast as F train from Forest Hiils.

That's right. Downtown will be pretty quick from Park Slope, far less than an hour, but the F from Forest Hills is express and it's local from Brooklyn. You can get to midtown pretty fast from the Atlantic-Pacific area, which has every train imaginable except the F. And L, and J/Z. But whatever. I lived there, it's not unsafe but maybe some blocks a little more dodgy than by 15th Street. It's also maybe a little more expensive.

Morningside_gal is on a distinguished road
Having looked at 2 bedroom apartments all over Park Slope/Windsor Terrace/Kensington in September, I have to say I would NOT believe that it's a great apartment. We didn't find ANY place under $2300 and most were $2500 to $2700 (and let me tell you, they were pretty dumpy!!)
Lots of ads on Craigslist are teasers. They say they have XYZ for some amount of $$ and then when you call and set up a time to see places, you never see XYZ you see totally different places for a lot more $$$.

LookingtoLeave will become famous soon enoughLookingtoLeave will become famous soon enough
I can tell you of my most recent experience there. I stayed in "Park Slope" for the holidays. While the accomodations were satisfying, the ad on Craigslist was a little misleading. For one, while the ad said it was Park Slope, others said it was actually Prospect Park we were staying in which was just a few streets over from a sketchy area. Secondly, it claimed to be a 3 bedroom!!! The apt. had one real bedroom, one other "room" that the owner used as a library. There was no closet or door, so to me that's not a bedroom. It's a converted room-not bedroom. The 3rd room was an "office" which was merely a partially enclosed area with a desk and more books. So lesson learned, they will entice you and you do not usually get what you pay for. However, it doesn't mean it's always a dump.

That area is fine, but be careful of the building and the apartment. Some of those buildings in that area look they haven't been maintained in a minute!

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Some of those too good to be true ads are just agents trying to generate leads.
