DECORUM NOTE: - - - On any trip costing only $10 or so, follow the same guidelines as you might in tiping a waitress... even if the meal is only $10, it would be considered rude to tip $2.00, especially if she's been providing great service.... so, in that light, tiping $5.00 isn't considered "too much"... same thing with cabbies or other service-providers.

generally, if the cost is over $30 or so, you can go to the default 18-25%, but on cheaper bills, tip big; they'll remember you for it, and you'll get better service.

They'll remember me? Sure, but I'll likely never that taxi driver again!

So? They get paid little as it is. Giving them a few extra bucks will not only make you feel good, but, make them feel good.

It's the little things that count.

I have just recently moved to D.C (for work), but i lived in NY all my life (all 26 years of it!) and I loved it. New york really gets in your blood, you become "spoiled" by it's convenience (everything open late and the night life) and I miss it greatly. The people are nice and the culture and the life in the city is interesting.
Anyone considering moving to NYC should know that if your not used to a fast paced environment you might be in for a shell shock but other then that enjoy it. It's a great place to be and I can say I am a proud New Yorker and always will be.

I'm not sure what you mean by the east and west 'middle' sides. Both sides of the Park are FINE except maybe by the projects at the upper West side part of Central Park. And even then, those areas aren't awful. In fact, the areas by the park are some of the highest priced areas of NYC.

Hey, my response is simply partial. Before reading the above I would have commented, don't come....run forest run. But after reading I suppose there are some great places to live no matter where you live. However, living in NYC is in my opinion a surivors city. If you are a fighter, willing to give it your all, and Have a relationship with the creator of all things and came through the doorway(Jesus). Then by all means come. Like the above said, Queens, Staten Island, and some I repeat some place in brooklyn are the best. Westchester County is another good option..............Beware to pay bocco bucks though!
