I don't think thats true. Even McDonalds is more expensive. Yeah you can FIND meals for cheap but groceries and everything else are still expensive

That's nice. Wouldn't you want a quiet place to live after a day of hustle and bustle? $2K for 1bd doesn't sound too bad (I live near Santa Monica, CA). I am gonna be in NYC this Xmas/New Year, so I'm gonna check it out. Any recommendations on where native New Yorkers hang out?

If you're moving, what is your salary? You can't just 'move' to the US, just as American citizens can't just 'move' abroad without a proper visa that's legal for working.
Where will you be working? How much of a commute can you tolerate?

Am I being realistic about my move to NYC?
Hi,
I am new to this and I hope I am posting this in the right section. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Background info on me:
27 years old, female, resume: application support for 2 yrs (real estate company), financial systems analysis for 2 yrs in banking. Planning a move to NYC summer 2010 with 10K saved up. I will be looking for jobs as project/product manager/associate PM, product analyst or even the same thing. I currently live in Upstate NY (Buffalo, NY) and I make 42K/year + bonus.
Questions:
1. How much income can I expect to make? Is 65K too much to expect?
2. I am thinking of getting a roommate and budgeting $1500 for living (rent+utilities). Is that realistic for neighborhoods like Williamsburg, Astoria or even the Upper West Side?
3. Would $150/month for transportation enough?
4. Should I move first then try and get a job? Or should I get a job first?
**I am planning to start applying in Spring, if I get nothing I want to just pick up and leave, learn the city while job search and may be do side jobs like waitressing/retail to hold me over with my savings.
Am I being realistic? Any advice?
I know people always ask if I know I would love the big city and what not. I know I do, I grew up in a city and want to be back in one coz I miss the hustle bustle and everything that comes with it. Sure, its been 10yrs since but I doubt I have changed. I hate the quietness of a small city! and I live in one. Still can't adapt.

Can someone give me safety info on the Manhattan Valley neighborhood that is located in the Upper West Side.
I realize that every street is different, but I mean as a whole.
Thanks

Should one move to NYC for a part time job? The hours I found were 12-6pm, but it paid $15/hr.
Is it worth it?

So I am gonna repeat what a lot of people said but here is my situation...
I am 27 male moving from PA to NYC in probably January or February! I will probably have only 3000 in the bank and not sure if I will line up a job first. I am sure I can find a job when I get there! I have 6+ yrs bartender/waiter exp in Southern Cali and I am certified locksmith! I plan to find a room to rent anywhere in Manhatten or in the jersey city area as close to the path train as possible! DO I STAND A CHANCE???? There may be a place on Verick Street in Jersey available I was lookibg at but would rather be in the city!!!
And yes I have no problem workin hard and I know it aint gonna be easy I just want a real opinion as to weather I should even make the attemt of not!!!!
Any advice is welcome (good or bad)

The Manhattan and Jersey City area are too expensive for a Bartender/Locksmith. If you want to move to NYC try searching for a place in Brooklyn / Queens.
