I am looking for an apartment in woodside, sunnyside, or Astoria. I only make 30,000 a year and am trying to find a studio or a 1 bedroom in my price range of $850 being the max amount. Have been trying to do it without a broker, however that is proving to be very difficult!! I do not want a share, but being that it's getting down to the wire I would be open to any information.
I need to be out of my current place by the end of this month. My question is has anyone or does anyone know of a good broker who could help me locate a place in my price range? I would be great full for any information you could provide. |

Hey. I am a twenty year old female, moving from ultra-rural new jersey, to the city this fall with another female. I've been looking around williamsburg and park slope for cheap places, and they are hard to find! Since I do live so close to the city, I do know my way around manhattan very well, but when it comes to brooklyn, I don't know as much. Coming there for shows in the summertime at Mccaren Pool, or hanging out in Prospect Park is pretty much as far as that goes. The only areas I really know are Williamsburg and the nice nice area directly around Prospect Park, so I don't really know where else to look for apartments, in a nice, but still artsy/younger area. I would like to be in northern brooklyn, the closer to manhattan the better, and I would like to find a place near the L train. Wishful thinking, I suppose. I was wondering if any of you could give me the low down on which areas really are the greatest, and and how great the possibility of me finding a cheap[1400 the absolute highest] would be. And yes, since I am so young, and grew up with parents who base their lives around fear, I guess it has been instilled upon me, so my safety is in mind, though I know the areas I am looking into currently are some of the safest. But, help!

How long is the train ride to manhattan? Its a bit farther away than I would like. And well, I love the L train. It's the one i'm most familiar with hahah. I suppose I will have to get used to them all, though, huh. Either way, I have a few months to prepare all this, so I shouldn't start worry about all this juuust yet. I've been lurking this board for a little bit, and well, I kind of just want to be on here to talk to people/get more familiar with all the common knowledge of living in brooklyn that I do not yet know about. Samantha. |

Hi, I decided to put my post with the other people asking questions, instead of a new thread.
I'm a late 20s male, who will be working in the West Teens. I am looking for a studio or single bedroom apartment in the range of $1800-2200 with no roommates. Have lived in a 350 square foot studio in the past, so anything that size or above is fine. Would like to live in Manhattan or maybe west Brooklyn. Would prefer a reasonable commute (20 minutes). I'd like a safe area. I play music as a hobby, so would like a place that allows me to practice guitar and vocals. It would be nice to be near other people my age, with some kind of social scene, and people who are also into music (open mics, cafes, that sort of thing) Thanks! |

You probably know this by now, but that's on the low side for the nicer parts of Brooklyn that are close to Manhattan. If you are set on the L train, you might need to go out to Bushwick to find something at that price, which does not have the best record as far as safety and amenities. Another option would be Ridgewood, Queens as parts of it are on the L train. Can I ask what is it that you love about the L train? |
