Default Gang war in NYC

January 14, 2008 -- A murderous gang turf war has erupted in Manhattan's city high schools - even spilling out in the tony streets of Gramercy Park and Chelsea, The Post has learned.

One innocent youth has been murdered and a dozen others injured in more than half a dozen skirmishes linked to a feud between Dominicans Don't Play, or DDP, and the Trinitarios, two groups of largely second-generation
Dominican teens, law-enforcement sources said.

"Both of these gangs are recruiting at schools all over New York and in New Jersey," one gang investigator said.

"The Trinitarios are considered the fastest-growing gang in New York and renowned for using machetes and violence to make a statement."
In the past three months, the NYPD has investigated confrontations between the two groups in and around Gramercy Park, Chelsea, Harlem, the Morris Heights section of The Bronx and, most frequently, in Washington Heights.

SCHOOLS' GANG SCOURGE

Wow, according to the article gang related crime has rose 37% the past two years. Not a good sign.

This is no surprise...and the gang's infiltration to the more ritzy areas is what will bring them down....they should have just remained in Washington Heights and smaller sections of the Bronx...but now they are bringing it to Chelsea and Gramercy? That will not go unchecked to say the least....NOW the city will do something about it...

Yeah they even had a confrontation at the 14th street station. There are schools in lower Manhattan that have large Dominican population. These gangs recruit heavily within HS. So I would assume that schools like Brandeis, MLK, Graphics etc are the reason they beefed in Chelsea.

It's not only them. Crips killed a innocent kid because they tought he was blood in E. Tremont.

But these two gangs, DDP and Trinitario stick out like a sore thumb.

they haven't infiltrated "ritzy" areas the schools that they attend are in ritzy areas, it the liberals way of exporting the ghetto, their thinking was if you get the kid into a different environment it might alter their ghetto upbringing, obviously it doesn't work

Well if they are infiltrating "ritzy" areas either by attending schools there, or moving there..the net effect is the same..problems in the streets and HS....who cares about the semantics. The issue will now receive alot more attention and thus will be beneficial to us all..this could be the best thing...with all the press the police will now have an equally radical response.

Problem is that the conflict in those ritzy areas happened Months ago. They're still currently going at it in those schools. Nothing has been done yet. Also the number of members of these two gangs Uptown and the Bronx and in Brooklyn (believe it or not they have the largest # of trinis) is insane. I read that 1 out of every 3 DR kid is in one of these gangs. IMO, the biggest problem are the schools. This is where they recruit, and it becomes almost like a fad. As a result you have whole schools with DDP stronghold (Columbus) or Trini (Clinton).

I doubt the police could stop them at this point. But who know, they did calm the Latin Kings down who were an even bigger threat.

You may THINK nothing has been done...but in all likelihood there is ALOT being done...but you either won't hear about it...or will hear about it after a big bust/sting or some breakthrough. But believe that they are DEFINITELY doing SOMETHING about it.

The police were able to bust the stranglehold that the mob had, as well as numerous other gangs that had this city under complete seige and control....far worse than these High Schoolers...lets be serious here.

the main reason nothing is done about gangs and gang violence is because it is usually only in "minority areas". Now that it is in the "ritzy" areas - watch how fast it is stopped. These kids beat up and shoot up all the time in the bx etc.

13 year olds already have shootings under their belt. are carrying gun and street cred holds more weight in the P.S than anything else. most of the kids are in gangs and that's a fact. so it's nothing new.

Also the one who said "it is the liberals way" lolol please tell me you think for yourself and also along the lines of logic - not along the predefined lines of some "party".

Agreed BX718...now that the problem is at their door it will receive the attention it needs...so this may be a blessing...and I am confident they are tackling the situation as we speak...takes time...but the city has a history of breaking up these types of gangs.
