Anticas on Freshpond Rd. in Glendale. It is one of those places that hasn't changed for eons. And every time we go we get the same waiter..and boy is he quite a sight to see.
. Babbos is GOOD GOOD food...but it's not that authentic Italian experience. It is just too new....but the food sure is good. |

Danny House on Lefferts Blvd. in Kew Gardens. A hole in the wall that has the best egg plant and chicken parm on the planet. Great bread, too.

I like Dani's House for the food (chicken parm, yummy) but I think the pizza sauce is too sweet. I like the Red Rose Restaurant on Smith St in Bklyn.

Villa Mosconi in Manhattan on MacDougal Street just off Houston. They specialize in Northern Italian dishes and the food is excellent.

Definitely Dominick's in the Bronx. I went to college right near Arthur Avenue, and from what I could tell, you really can't go wrong with Italian food on that road. There are some great Italian bakeries there, too.

Italian restaurants apparently rank #1 in NYC. Here's a listing from the Voice (circa04) which appears accurate.
village voice > nyclife I think if you check out any of the communities that still have an Italian presence, you'll find at least one, and probably a few good to excellent Italian restaurants that are representative of Sicily, Tuscany, Naples, Bologna, etc. Italian food varies so much from one region to another that it is difficult to say Italian these days and not wonder "which Italian" or "where in Italy" as more Northern cuisine has become popular and has eased out the Southern fare. When I lived in Carroll Gardens I was as lucky as anyone living in Sicily with not only great, small neighbourhood restaurants, but one extra-ordinary groceria--with super imports straight from the vendors of Palermo! |

I had my wedding reception down the block and I am drawing a complete blank on the name of the place!! (Pelligrino's?) OMG... it is long gone. It became a Rockbottom or something like that. It was also down the block from Mosbach's.
